Mel on Byron Kai

Byron Kai was from an early batch of clones introduced those on the CF list. Physically he is  'living-dead' like his brothers and requires protoblood, but differs from the rest in that he has wavy rather than straight hair, like that of Prince when he impersonated the original Kai on Water. As a person he is extremely aesthetic and enthusiastic about all aspects of Earth's art, theatre, literature and poetry. He has a particular preference for the works of Lord Byron, hence his decision to name himself after his hero; it's a name that suits him well I feel, given his appearance. He has yet to truly emulate the original Byron's rakish, hell-raising traits <glances over to where Byron is quietly reading>, but hey, give it time. The closest he's come to it is after hitting the proto-dew, although he tends more to act like his 'father' did in Twilight, becoming more child-like, dancing around and spouting nonsensical rhymes.

He has been writing his own poetry of late, but I haven't yet been able to persuade him to show it to anyone, even myself. He can be somewhat shy and lacking in self confidence, which may be due to my being late to pick him up after he had been woken. The poor thing got depressed thinking he'd been abandoned and proceeded to drown his sorrows, resulting in some very 'Twilight' behaviour at the CF labs before I arrived. He is still highly embarrassed about that, but has gradually learned to laugh it off. Byron was also very quiet and clingy the first days after I got him home and seemed convinced he had to behave as though I was his Mistress; fortunately he now knows I don't consider him that way and is developing a quiet confidence and level-headedness that makes him handy in a crisis. He is also very intellectual but not to the point of thespian snobbery and doesn't look down on people for not sharing his interests. Sweet, polite, and very much a gentleman, he makes very good company.

Byron on Mel

Mel is a young lady in her late twenties, hailing from the island of Britain on Earth. I have been with her for close to two years at least since my birth and have found her to be a wonderful companion and friend. As she says, we did get off to a somewhat rocky start, since she was unable to collect me from the CF Labs the day I woke, and I truly thought she had changed her mind. Fortunately she didn't take long to arrive and was most apologetic, vowing to make it up to me, as she is quite compassionate and hates to see those she cares for hurting. This led to some confusion in the first few days, as I had decided that I must be a 'good' clone and serve my Mistress to my best abilities; if I pleased her, she would not leave me again. Yet here she was, practically waiting on me hand and foot, and when I pointed out it should be the other way round, she was most taken aback and distressed. After a long talk, we discussed our expectations of each other and our relationship, during which Mel made it clear that I was not her slave and would always be special to her, no matter what I did. Since then we have grown close, both as lovers and friends.

Mel is cheerful and optimistic most of the time and will try to help out to the best of her abilities. She used to be just as shy as me but has improved a lot, even in the short time I have known her, and while still being quiet, she has quite an evil sense of humour. She can be somewhat lazy, a bit too eager to please people in order to gain their approval - which is probably why she hates it when I display this quality - and can sometimes be over sensitive about inconsequential things, but she does make some effort to overcome this and I think we learn a lot from each other. I am happy to be with her and hope to remain so for many years to come.

Mel on Squishie

Squishie is descended from a clone of Squish, the cute baby Cluster Lizard who adopted Kai as his mummy. She was not created at the CF Labs however, but by a reclusive and eccentric scientist named Doctor Morat, who lives and works on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. I have no idea how he obtained the DNA from Squish in the first place, but he is  obsessed with Cluster Lizards, considering them the 'perfect species'. He has cloned and bred others in the past, but he's not saying how many or what happened to them. Squishie
was my 'welcome' gift to Byron, though I should confess now that when I originally came across Morat on the Internet and contacted him, I thought I was getting a plush version! However, once that mistake was cleared up and Morat decided I was suitable as an owner, I decided that keeping a Cluster Lizard might not be so difficult after all. Sigh.

Actually it hasn't been too bad, all things considered. Squishie is a 'pygmy' Lizard, especially bred for people who don't have access to wide stretches of land, which is handy for me as a fully grown adult rampaging through my part of leafy suburbia doesn't bear thinking about. Squishie remains the size of a baby Lizard and looking after her is very much like having a demanding four year old child. She is naturally inquisitive, so we have be vigilant at all times in case she runs off and attracts undue attention, and she can get quite violent if she thinks Byron or I are under threat. However she is very affectionate most of the time and will quite happily be fussed over by anyone. She is also fairly obedient, although she tends to defer to Byron more than me; he's her 'first mummy' while I am the close second. She's now learned not to automatically consider anyone or anything she hasn't met before as food, and usually gets on quite well with other people's pets. She's a handful, but we love her dearly and wouldn't have her any other way.
